Computer Lab Assistant

This position requires a good working knowledge of computers and web navigation. It is well suited for anyone who loves computers either as a hobby or is interested in information technology.  This volunteer would be working in the Computer Lab at the Mosqueda Center, with a wide range of ages and skill levels.

Commitment:  2-6 hours per week

Times: between 10:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Dates:  Monday through Friday

Sports Leader

Dynamic individual would be responsible for the leadership of fun and exciting physical activities for children in the After-school program. This position would be fun for kinesiology majors or those with hobbies that include team and solo sports or general fitness.

Commitment: 2-6 hours per week

Times: 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Dates: Monday through Friday, beginning January 17, 2012

Photographer

The photographer would circulate around Reading and Beyond sites and take pictures of the program for marketing and news. This person would need to be available for special events, and fundraisers. Camera provided.

Marketing Assistant

The Marketing Assistant will help in the production of Reading and Beyond’s “eNewsletter” and other event fliers and marketing publications.  This position is perfect for graphic design, marketing, and art or business majors.

Commitment: 1-5 hours per week

Dates: Monday-Friday

Office/Clerical Volunteer

Working closely with Reading and Beyond staff, this important position would require phone/computer/office skills, and knowledge of programs offered. This position is ideal for someone looking to head into business or non-profit fields.

Commitment: 1-5 hours per week

Times: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Dates: Monday through Friday

Small World Pre-School

Reading and Beyond’s Pre-School program focuses on foundations for academic success. This position would be perfect for someone who likes working with children less than 5 years of age.

Commitment: 4 hours per day, twice a week

Times: 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Dates: Monday through Friday

Afterschool Recreation Assistant

This position is an opportunity to be creative and develop daily activities for the Mosqueda Center’s “Afterschool Drop-In Program”.  The volunteer will develop and implement enrichment activities centered on education and fitness. Ideal for students seeking experience in physical fitness, recreational therapy, teaching or  anyone who just loves kids, games, arts or crafts.

Commitment:  2 hours per day, twice a week

Times: 3:30-5:30pm

Dates: Monday through Friday

Adult Education Tutor – GRE Prep

Tutor will work with adults seeking to pass the GRE exam for high school diploma equivalency. The tutor would work with groups of 2-3 adults, in the subject areas including math, English, social studies.  This position would best fit university Juniors/Seniors.

Commitment: 3 hours per week, per semester

Times: 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Dates: Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Reading Tutors


Tutors work one-on-one with struggling elementary school students from the surrounding community in an after-school reading program. Volunteer tutors will meet for one hour, twice a week, for the duration of the semester and have the same student each time.  Ideal for students in liberal studies, social work, or future teachers, and those seeking a rewarding experience and the opportunity to build new skills.  No experience is required.

Commitment: 2 hours per week/per semester

Times: 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Dates: Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning January 17, 2012

Fingerprinting


Reading And Beyond requires fingerprinting for all volunteers over the age of 18, even if they have been cleared through another agency.  The fingerprinting fee is $20.00 if you have lived in California for the past 7 years, or $35.00 if you have lived outside California within the past 7 years.  Either fee will be reimbursed with receipt.

Document Translator

Ideal for someone who is fluent in either Spanish or Hmong.  This person would translate forms and texts necessary for Reading and Beyond to properly serve our community.  Excellent experience to add to a resume.
