Internet Connection




I can't connect to the wireless.

Be sure that your wireless is turned on and that you enter the correct password.


My wireless connection keeps dropping.

Make sure you have a good signal. Restart your computer.


Internet connection is very slow.

Restart your computer.


Do we have wireless connection in the Computer Lab at Mosqueda center?

Yes. The wireless network for that side of the building is RAB-LAB.  See Vang Kue for the password if you don't know it.


Do we have wireless connection in the North Building at Mosqueda center?

Yes. The wireless network for the North Building is RABGUEST. This connection also extends to the auditorium. Come see me if you need the password for it.


I don't have access to my personal drive.

Be sure you are connected to Reading and Beyond's network, then log off and log back on. This does not work if you are connecting through a VPN connection.


I can't access a particular website.

Some websites are blocked due to Reading and Beyond's policy. If you need to access a blocked webpage for a specific reason pertaining to Reading and Beyond's business, see Vang Kue.





Server Issues




I can't connect to the shared drive.

Be sure you are connected to Reading and Beyond's network. Log off and log back on.


Shared drive is responding really slowly.

Make sure you are connected to Reading and Beyond's network. If you are connecting through VPN, restart your VPN connection. Restart your computer.


Can I access shared drive from Computer Lab?

Yes but you will need to have access to a VPN connection in order to connect to share drive from Mosqueda's computer lab. If you don't have access, come talk to me.


Can I access shared drive from North Building?

Yes, but you will need to have access to a VPN connection in order to connect to the shared drive from Mosqueda's computer lab. If you don't have access, see Vang Kue.


I'm unable to access the Reading and Beyond intranet.

Be sure you are connecting to Reading and Beyond's network. If the intranet is not your default home page, Reading and Beyond's intranet page can be accessed by typing companyweb in the address bar of your web browser.


I can't access a folder in the shared drive.

If you can access the shared drive but cannot access a specific folder or view a specific file, you do not have permission to do so.  If you need to access into that folder or file, please obtain permission from your supervisor and have your supervisor confirm it with Vang Kue.





e-Mail




I'm not getting any emails.

Be sure you are connected to Reading and Beyond's network.


How can I connect to the email without Microsoft Outlook?

Launch a web browser such as Internet Explorer. Go to www.readingandbeyond.org. Click on Staff email on the bottom of the page. Click CONTINUE upon seeing the security prompt.


Can I get email on my phone?

Yes. However, this will be on your own risk. Reading and Beyond doesn't not allow any work done after hours unless authorized by your supervisor.


I no longer receive email on my phone.

If you recently changed your password, update the password on your phone.





Printer / Copier




I am unable to print.

Check to see that you are connected to Reading and Beyond's network. Be sure you select the right printer and that you've entered your print code correctly. Windows 7 users, if you don't see the print code pop up, check your taskbar.


How do I send out a FAX?

Go to the Printer/Copier. Enter your code and login. Press the SCAN-AND-FAX button. Put the sheets you want to fax into the top feeding tray or on the glass. Press on the OFFHOOK button on the screen. Enter 9 then the number you want to send the fax to. Press START.


How can I check to see if my fax was received?

Access the shared drive. Open the FAX folder. Check the files for your fax.


How do I scan a document?

Go to the printer/copier. Enter your code and login. Press the SCAN-AND-FAX button. Place your paper in the top feeding tray or on the glass. Choose where you want your scan to go.  Select SMB-SCAN in order to send your scanned document to the SCAN folder on the shared drive. Select your email if you want your scan to be sent to your email.





General Computer Issues




My computer is not turning on.

Check to see that the power cord is plugged in. If it is plugged in to a surge protector, make sure the surge protector is plugged into an outlet. Make sure the surge protector is turned on.


How do I preserve battery life on my laptop?

Unplug the power cord occasionally and run computer on its battery, even if you spend all your time at a desk. Laptop battery life can be adversely affected by never using the battery. Fully discharge and recharge your notebook battery about once a month. Notebook battery life can be reduced if the battery never gets to experience a full discharge and recharge.


How to request a laptop and/or projector?

If you need to use a laptop, a projector, or both, you can check them out through Kao Saetern. If Kao is unavailable, please see Vang Kue.


How to set up a laptop and a projector?

Plug in all power cords to outlets and connect to equipment. Connect the VGA cord to both the computer and the projector. Turn on both the computer and the projector.  If the computer doesn't display automatically, press the keys FN+F to show the display.


My mouse doesn't work.

Check to see if is plugged in. If you are using a wireless mouse, check to see if the USB receiver is plugged into your computer and the mouse is turned on. Also, replace the battery when needed.


My keyboard doesn't work.

Be sure it is plugged into your computer, then restart your computer. If you are using a wireless keyboard, make sure the USB receiver is plugged into your USB port. Check to see that the wireless keyboard is turneded on.


My monitor is not turning on.

Make sure the monitor is plugged into an outlet. Also, check the connections between the monitor and the computer.


How can I change my password?

If you are connected to Reading and Beyond's network, press CTR+ALT+DEL. Click on Change My Password.  Your new password must be at least eight characters, with a capital letter, a number and/or a symbol.  It cannot be the same as your previous two passwords.
