Major Programs:

1. Literacy Intervention/ After School Program. Teaching Elementary Children to Read at Grade Level.

Since 1999, Reading and Beyond has tutored over 4000 children in reading; daily 500 children receive free reading tutoring at one of our eleven sites.

Results: 70% of the children improve at-least one grade level in reading within six months.

2. Parent Involvement. Empowering Parents to Help Their Children.

Since 2003, over 10,000 parents have utilized our parent involvement program to learn ways to work with their child’s school and teachers, and create a home environment that support children’s success.

Results: CREAD, an independent evaluator, confirmed that the parent program works! Children of parents who participated in the program (from 2003-2006) showed statistically significant performance improvements on standardized test scores compared to those children of parents who did not participate.

3. Early Childhood Education. Preparing Young Children to Begin  School.

Since 2003, Reading and Beyond conducted 2,139 home visits for families with children 0-5 years old, to mentor parents on how to help their child’s development and prepare them to start school.

Results: CREAD, an independent evaluator, confirmed that young children enrolled in this program showed statistically dramatic improvements in their skills needed for success in kindergarten.

4. Education. Addressing Poor Health Habits that Affect a Child’s Education.

Since 2003, Reading and Beyond has conducted over 400 health workshops for over 4,500  families.

Results: 93% of the program participants reported that they  applied the information they learned from the Health Workshops.
